Depends. Look at the comments of the file. That helps out a lot.

Also, look at the amount of seeders. If it's high, then the files are most likely without a virus.

Consider getting OpenOffice.

It's free, and you don't have to scan for viruses and look for cracks and keys. It's the same as Office.

I bought my laptop with windows office word 2007 already downloaded. I did not realize it was only a trail version and that i could only use it 25 times. I had been doing tons of work in word and powerpoint only to reach my limit before i finished any of them. Now i have a lot of my work saved, but the whole office 2007 system is suspended until i purchase the full version. I installed office 2003, which i already had, thinking it would convert all my 2007 work into a file i could open in office 2003 but it didnt. Will i have to download 2007 to get all of my work? Or, is there something i can do to get my work on to 2003?|||You didn't mention what operating system you were using, but for Windows XP or Vista you can download the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats. I am about to upgrade to windows 7 from Vista, the problem i have is that when i bought my computer it came with windows office integrated, but not with the actual physical CD, so basically when i first booted up my compyuter it installed everything automatically. i then made a recovery disk, but for the life of me i cannot find it any where. what i wanna know is whether i will lose my windows office when i install windows 7. I can't do an upgrade, which would guarantee all my programs and files are kept safe, as i am upgrading from vista home premium to windows 7 professional, so i deffenitely have to do a clean install. Why windows Office 2000 and 2003 files not working properly with Vista? Why the new windows office 2007 is not compatible with MS 95, 98SE and MS ME and 2000? Anyone knows whether will these be resolved or its permanently like this?|||This is the problem people have being asking about once I installed office 2007 on the PCs in the office... but don't you worry, even office 2007 is backward compatible. Just open your document normally if you have saved them with lower version of microsoft office then click on the office button on your 2007 and see the 'Save As..' option, select 'Word97- 2003' option and you can rename or do whatever you like with the.... Save your document and move it any where.. It should open.

However, you should note that for some features that are not available on your lower versions, the 2007 will convert such to some format which will be recognized by the version you have saved has.

Beyond money, Microsoft have developed the new 2007 on another platform with a view for the challenges of that are coming in the computer industry. I personally have found that worms and other security loopholes that are available with the lower versions of office are well taken care of...

So take the right actions and you are can enjoy your documents...

Ha ha from bill.|||Making an new product compatible with older products does not work for any software manufacturer, whether it's Microsoft or Sun or Linux or Joe Blow. There are no plans to make Office 2007 compatible with earlier versions of Windows, in fact, that isn't possible. As to whether upgrades to Office 2000 and 2003 will make them compatible with Vista, only time will tell. It is much too early in the release of Vista to try to make these changes. If you are one of the ones who rushed to buy a new operating system and then spend the rest of your life complaining about it, too bad.

Windows 95, 98SE and ME are no longer supported by Microsoft. Win95 is going on 12-13 years old. Win98 actually came out in 1997 and is now 10 years old. WinME is a piece of junk - why anything is compatible with it is a mystery. Windows XP is now a stable and user-friendly OS. Why aren't you complaining about all the other equipment manufacturers? They need to make driver changes to go along with Vista and they haven't rushed to do so. They are just as much at fault. They knew it was coming, they were given specs and most of them decided to ride it out.

Many of these things occurred with Windows XP, though not to such a great extent. XP did require new drivers for almost all peripheral equipment, but then ANY new operating system does.|||why should it support out of date software. i dont understand not supporting office 2003 but any one later than that is just out dated software that can have a lot of security holes in it. as for office 2007 not being supported on any thing other than xp and vista. that seem right. why should it be supported on a plat from than is most likely gone and should be gone. the older os have major security problems. lets face it the days of 98 and 200 are now long gone. lets face it its either xp or vista and thats how its going to be till the new Windows come out.|||Any time you save a document in Word 2007, you have an option to save it in a form compatible with Word 97-Word 2003. I am running Office 2007 on XP Pro - the compatibility problem with Office 2007 is nothing to do with Vista. Microsoft should really issue a statement advising all users of Office 2007 to save their documents in the compatible form to allow the document to be retrieved on a computer running an older version of Office. I cannot say if the same problem occurs with Excel because I don't currently use Excel|||This incompatibility is because the new Vista OS operates in a completely different manner from the earlier Windows OS's.

MOST older applications will NOT work with it.

They have NO intention of attempting to correct this problem since they do NOT see it AS a problem. They see it as an "overall" improvement.

It ALSO "forces" you to buy other new software (and, in many cases, hardware) if you upgrade to the Vista OS!

Personally, I recommend going to "Open Office" that is FREE, and will read and write Windows Office files! (For some things I still use the "very old" DOS systems)|||That's because they have abandoned everything lower than Windows XP

First off you mean to say why do disk formatted on my Windows 2000 PC fail to read on my Windows98 PC?

The main reason for this is the heads on the two PC's are just far enough out of alignment that they cannot read each others disk. Say the 2K PC's head are 10% out of alignment to the right of the floppy tracks it can read and write it's own disk fine but your 98 PC's heads are 10% out of aligment to the left yet it can read and write it's own disk but when going between PC's you get a 20% difference and that's to much for the drive to handle.

That's a very rough and certainly not technical reason you have the problem. The solution is to not use floppies and to use either network or flash drives. Floppies are just about useless at this point.|||If you have access to both computers, take the floppy drive from the win98 machine and install it on the win2k machine. Then you should be able to read the disks if alignment is the actual issue.

Can a 60 day windows Office Trial disk be reused? My friend used it on his computer and would i be able to use it on mine?|||Here is the link to download your own latest version of the 60 day trial from Microsoft...

    http://us20.trymicrosoftoffice.com/produ鈥?/a>

You can install it on another computer, but it will not work if you try and reinstall it on the same computer to get a new trial.|||Best thing to do is to download a copy of Ubuntu. If you boot this disc, you get free office software that never expires. You are also allowed to sell it, copy it for free, and give it away to as many people as you like, and there is no 'trial'.

It is also much more secure than anything Microsoft are capable of making.

it used to come up straight away when i was using word and now it prepares to install|||I am sorry to be the one to tell you that you are using one of the most terrible operating systems ever created! MS Office does that at times and to solve this problem you can either restore your machine to a [reviouse time or reinstall the office suite entirely. Otherwise the best route to go is to install a copy of the linux OS called Fedora core 6 (this is the latest version), and it comes with everything like the open office suite installed for free and never has any problems I promise you that on my honor. to download a copy go to http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/|||Are you using a copy?

Instead of going into the program and opening a document, open a word document from my computer.

I did this with mine and then re-installed it when I got fed up!|||It does that the first time you try to use it, most MS Office programs do. If its started to do it again its probably downloaded an update through Windows Autoupdate, and needs to install it to operate fully.

Have you tried running through the steps again, and then closing it and re-opening the software? If this doesn't solve the problem I'd suggest a full uninstall (from control panel -> add/remove software) and then install it again.|||hi,
That's because you deleted your installation files. You need to insert your office cd-rom and when it asks to install let the office install missing files then you won't have any problem. Another way is to uninstall the whole office program and then re-install it again without deleting the installation files at the end of the installation. i hope it is gonna fix the problem.|||Yes, like MSG says the installation files have been deleted, perhaps you've done that doing a "cleanup"?

Nothing to worry about, just insert your Office CD and let it install whatever's missing. And don't delete the files in future! Not the end of the world - just irritating.

  • Okay, so I have Windows Office 2007 installed on my computer. But, it somehow needs updated. I need the product key to update it. Does anyone know what the product key is?|||The product key is a series of characters which is the proof of ownership. If you purchased it from a store then it should be on the box or on a sticker on one of the disc sleeves. If you bought it online then it would have been emailed to you probably.|||no i'm sorry i don't know what your product key is but i kno mine. theirs no way i could know yours anyways cuz i'm not their|||Your product key is usually a series of sixteen numbers and letters that is unique to your product. Your product key should either be on the box it came in, if you bought it at the store or could be on the sleeve that the disc was in. Now if this program came pre-loaded on the computer when you bought it, you will need to look through your computer's documentation that came with it. Chances are the product key will be on a card. If you happened to purchase the product on line, Microsoft should have sent the product key to you by email. If by some chance you can't find your product key you will need to contact MIcrosoft for a replacement product key. I hope this helps.|||Your key is in your software box. It is also in the Help area as well as the registry.

If you bought the software via a download from Microsoft, your key will be in an email. I suggest printing that key as that is the only way you will be able to use your software if you have to reload or activate the product.

My Windows Office (Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook etc.) is not working. Everytime I click on it, Windows Installer pops up and then says "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." and then it's looking for an installation package named "MAINSP3ff.msp". The only thing that I did was remove Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage from the Add or Remove Prgrams and then undo that with System Restore. Now, I can't use any of those programs and can't reinstall it.

I've tried going to Microsoft and Sony's website and tried reinstalling MAINSP3ff.msp in an update package, but my computer says that I've already downloaded it, but then, it can't find it whenever it tries to run Windows Installer. I've also lost my CD that came with my computer, so I can't just uninstall Microsoft Office and then reinstall it.

What should I do to fix this???|||It sounds like you are going to have to buy a copy, or find your CD.

I have a new computer, windows vista, it has windows office and student already on the computer. well i need this program for my online classes, and it says i can use it like 15 times before having to register. Does this mean i have to buy the entire program in order to keep using it? and if so, anyone know where to get it cheap, it's pretty expensive!!??|||Here are some of your options when the 25-usage or 60-day period runs out.

First, if you're a student, you may qualify for the Student edition of Office at a pretty good price ($59.95):

    http://www.microsoft.com/student/discoun鈥?/a>

Second, if you鈥檙e interested in buying Word only, check out this URL, especially the second group of listings.

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/produc鈥?/a>

Note that the higher of the two prices quoted is for a full version of that program and the lower, for upgrades from existing software. Read the list of upgrade-qualifying software carefully: MS Works is often one, and may have come on your machine.

Hope that helps.|||ahhh no that's microsoft price so this going to stay and yes your goign to have to buy it and the student version is one of the cheaper if not cheapest version...you could also go and download openoffice..... it can run anything that can run in office and best of all its free....but most likely openoffice can do whatever your going to need in any of your classes|||go to openoffice.org

Anyone know how I get it back or what else I could do cause I have alot or pages to print out..|||Sounds like they did a System Recovery, probably to get rid of malware. If so, you've lost more than just Microsoft Office. You've lost all software you installed on the machine. I hope you have the installation media for them.

A tip: If after re-installation of some software, it doesn't seem to work right, UNinstall it properly, then reinstall it a second time. System Recovery may leave some loose ends.

Good luck.|||If your system was re-installed then the people that did the re install would only have put the OS on and not any other programs you may of had.
If you have the Office disc just re install it if not download the trial version then you can validate that with your product key that you had to validate the original Office install

Can someone please help me, I dont want to fork out this much money if I dont need to.
Thanks all|||Yes. More vendors are installing trial versions of Microsoft Office on their new computers - theoretically, it lowers the price somewhat, since you're not paying for a new version of Office when you buy the computer - but once that trial period ends or you want to use some function that the trial version disables, you'll have to buy a whole new Office box in order to keep editing the files you created. It's just another example of the computer owning you, rather than you owning the computer. I'd suggest getting OpenOffice.org, which is a FOSS office suite with similar functionality to Microsoft Office, but some of your formatting, especially if you used proprietary MS stuff, may get screwy.|||*sigh*

    Yeah. go pirate that ****.

Do a search on piratebay or some other file sharing service (limewire/kazaa) for "MS office key generator".

Be careful what you download. You take the risk of installing a virus, so make sure to back up your files and set a restore point.

    Piratebay is a good bet.

Unless you're picking a date prior to when you loaded Office 2010, it's not going to disappear on the restore.

You purchased it so you should have the software DVD in a safe place so that you can reload it anyway.

If it's the files you created using Office 2010 that you're worried about, that's a different story. In that case just put your Word, excel, powerpoint, etc files onto a DVD, thumb drive, etc

I believe you mean Microsoft Office, not Windows Office. Office is application software, such as a word processor (MS Word), spreadsheet (Excel), presentation software (PowerPoint), etc.

Windows XP is the operating system. The operating system is used to run all the software applications on your computer. It also is used to manage the hardware. It is the main software you use to interact with everything on your computer and it hosts your applications.

Office is just one of those applications. You need an operating system on your computer, whether XP or some other one. At the end of that time it stops letting you edit your files or create new ones. You have to purchase Microsoft Office 2010, or at least Word 2010, to do that.

Note: The 25-character product key on the computer case or laptop bottom is NOT the key for MS Office. It鈥檚 only for the Windows operating system.

Here are some of your options for legally paying less than full price for Microsoft Office 2010:

First, if you're a student, you may qualify for the Office 2010 Professional Academic edition at a pretty good price ($79.95):

Also, if you have files that are locked up in the new Word 2010 file format (.docx), here鈥檚 a possibility for salvaging them. Microsoft offers a free Compatibility pack that allows earlier versions of Word (and Microsoft Works) to read and write Word 2010 files. If you have access to an earlier version, this can at least give you back your documents. Some new features of Word 2010 will be lost or converted to straight text in the conversion to the earlier version.

i have the software for windows office 2007. i'm also build my own computer. i dont want to pay for windows 7. so my idea is that i would download Linux (since its free), and install windows office for school work. so is this idea possible?|||No windows office is only made for WINDOWS|||Linux can not run Windows software. It only works on Windows.

However there are programs that will allow you to run Windows software on a Linux PC. It uses an emulator, which means it runs a "fake" version of Windows on the Linux computer. This allows you to run most Windows software on a Linux computer. Most versions of Linux come with a pre-installed version of a Windows emulator.

However, it means that every command for the Windows program has to be translated into a Linux command for it to run. Doing this will slow the Windows program. You may have performance issues with the speed of the program.

An alternative is to download Open Office. It is a clone of the Windows Office program originally designed for Linux, but now also available in PC and MAC versions. It is free, can create, read, and edit all the standard formats used by Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access). One file created by Open Office and saved in one of the MS Office formats is identical to a file created with the real MS Office program.

It is about 98% the same as Office word and excel, but its free. Plus you can even same documents as word and excel documents on there.

In terms of programming, Linux is certainly the best. If you are interested in writing code then its great, but even better is that Linux is all open source. Under their distribution requirements, all linux os have to include the source code with the os. Thus, if you can edit the code, you can literally adjust linux to any way you want it. It is the most custom editable os there is. Also, it can be good for slow or old computers, and especially those without much ram.|||Some Windows programs work on Linux with the help of Wine.

When you close it, it would give you an option to save it as 2007 format (.pptx), which you can choose or ignore and resave as .ppt. Earlier there was no backward compatibility (pptx opening in 2003) but now that works too.|||Microsoft Office 2003 has some patches for converting 2007 files. When you open a file on your computer, it will start to say "Converting..." and then open up in a minute.

If you modify the file in any way and save it, it will run the converting tool again. You can change it to your format by going to File/Save As and change it to Microsoft (type) Document. or 2000 (type) document.|||Yes. It would run in compatibility mode. You may save it as it is, or you may save it as .docx, .pptx and so on. But it would not happen otherwise. If you want to view Office 2007 documents on a computer with only Office 2003 installed, download this Office compatibility pack from Microsoft:

    http://www.brothersoft.com/microsoft-off鈥?/a>

Be advised that you could only view documents saved in Office 2007 format if you installed the compatibility pack. You will need Office 2007 installed in your system if you are to make modifications in these document formats.|||Yes.
Going from Windows 2003 to 2007 is not too much trouble; however, the other way around from 2007 to 2003, you will lose some of the features incorporated in the new version.

If you are using Windows 2007 you can use Save As and do it in 2003 or 2007. The x at the end of the end of the extension would tell you the version you are saving into. docx= Word 2007, doc=Word 2003.

Be aware that when you open your presentation if it's saved in 2007 and you are using 2007, it may tell you that some features will be lost and if you want to continue. The answer is up to you and depends on how much time you have. I had done this one for one of my classmates and it was in the spare of the moment. It works. Good luck.

If you are using Windows 2003 and you need to open a document done in 2007, use a converter. Here is the link:

The 2007 xml format is usually a problem for the 2003 Windows Office, but you can download a free compatibility pack for that from Microsoft.|||Yes, it will.

But, if you modify the file in any way, you have to use Save As... to save it in the older 2003 file format or you won't be able to open it with MSO 2003 ever again.|||Open it up in 2007 and it will ask you if you want to go to windows.com to download a format reader to read 2003 files.|||Yes it should but if you had a offfice 2007 format file and wanted to open it in office 2003 you couldnt|||yerr it will|||Yes, it will. • Vista is a very good operating system for home users who aren't very good with computers since it has a lot of new features with them in mind.. However, it's still in its infancy and there are a great many bugs and issues. I have it installed, and am still finding some compatibility issues, but am perservering with it because it looks so pretty!

It currently has no place in the Business environment because it was designed with Windows server 2008 in mind, and until that O/S is released and installed in your network, I would seriously avoid it at all costs as it REALLY messes up your systems..

Office 2007 on the other hand has a number of new features with the business users in mind and th benifits can really be seen when using it in a shared office environment. The laptop is new and has xp a direct link would be nice thanks.|||Do you mean it's an older version of office that is incompatable with Xp?
Office can't be downloaded for free however an alternative would be Open Office. www.openoffice.org/|||Holly's suggestion about Open Office really is excellent, but I thought it only worked under Linux. My husband put it on my machine to work under my Virtual Linux Desktop. And I believe, as she said that it is free. I have worked with it some and it IS excellent, and deals with all the Microsoft Office documents.

Microsoft Office 2003 may be downloadable, but it's NEVER free. It came as a demo on my new desktop computer but they want $149 for it, and I don't use it. I have other programs I prefer.

I'm going to install MS Works 99 on my XP Media desktop. I think it will probably work just fine. I have a copy that came on another machine and hopefully was NOT just a demo copy.

With the new Windows XP Media, the Microsoft Office installed is ONLY a Demo.. and you have to pay to use it after 6 weeks. They used to provide a simple version of Micorsoft Word or Works FREE on computers so you could edit .DOC files, but these days they try to FORCE you to purchase Microsoft Office current version for over $100... rather than give you a copy of Word or Works free with the computer. After the 6 weeks was up, it ONLY allows me to READ files. I can NOT edit and resave any doc files which I can on all my other computers.

So give Open Office a try. It's easy to work with and will edit all the Microsoft Office files.

Any time you make changes to an operating system, it's advisable to back up all the files and data on your PC.

Once your data is backed up, shut down your computer.

Hold the F8 key down while you restart the computer. At the prompt, choose to reboot in safe mode.

Once your desktop appears, click the "Start" menu, and select "Run." This will open a command prompt. Type "regedit" in the command prompt window to open the registry editor.

Just in case something goes wrong, back up the registry. In the registry editor's menu, Click "File" and then "Export." Select "All" under "Export Range." Save the file to a folder you can easily find.

Now search the editor for the "wgalogon" folder and delete it. Close out of the registry editor.

Use your Windows search to find any "wga*" files and delete these files.

Here are the url of windows office error repair tool:http://www.RepairErrorHelp.com/ttfix-win鈥?/a>|||The easiest and fastest way to solve this problem is to run a registry cleaner software. A registry cleaner can eliminate errors in your record. This record stores all information about the software, drivers, applications and games that are installed on your computer. And in time, it can get bad, because some obsolete entries are not deleted and can lead to what they call the "errors". By using a registry cleaner http://make-a-computer-run-better.com the errors can be eradicated and increases the speed of your computer in the process. Registry cleaners work by scanning each file and then checking to see if it's corrupt or causing problems. If they find that it is broken, the registry cleaner will replace or fix the file for you to make your computer become free of errors. In addition, the errors will not happen if you regularly check and care for your computer system.

First you are going to have to remove linux and install Windows XP if you want to run Microsoft Office.

Once you have done that you are going to have 1.8GB left on your hard drive (assuming the 4GB one). You could probably fit Office on there but it would cripple your capability to use the machine (leaving you no space for other stuff)

The better idea is to get an SD card (4GB or larger) and throw it in the slot on the side. Then install your programs to the SD card. Windows has the 4GB hard drive all to itself and is happy. Your programs have the SD card to themselves and ard happy. You save a bunch of money off the price of an EEE so your happy too :) A jump drive also works (I've got a 4gb jump drive, 4gb SD card, and 60gb external hard drive all hooked up). However, I have found the USB drives slower than the SD card on my machine.

    FAQs: http://www-openoffice.com/faq.html
Open Office is a free Offfice Suite which has proven to be an alternatvie to Microsoft Office except for one thing that I mentioned, it's FREE. There are many other sites dedicated to Open Office and even those that offer Open Office Tutorials.
OpenOffice.org is a collection of different applications that work together closely to provide the features expected from a modern office suite. Many of the components are designed to mirror those available in Microsoft Office. The components available include:
Writer 鈥?a word processor similar in look and feel to Microsoft Word and offering a comparable range of functions and tools. It also includes the ability to export Portable Document Format (PDF) files with no additional software, and can also function as a WYSIWYG editor for creating and editing web pages. One important difference between Writer and Microsoft Word is that in Writer, many functions and number formats from Calc (below) are available in Writer's tables. Another difference is that in Writer, automatic save is off by default.
Calc 鈥?a spreadsheet similar to Microsoft Excel with a roughly equivalent range of features. Calc provides a number of features not present in Excel, including a system which automatically defines series for graphing, based on the layout of the user's data. Calc is also capable of writing spreadsheets directly as a PDF file.|||softpedia.com, c-net (also known as download.com), or microsoft.|||you can get office 2007 here http://us20.trymicrosoftoffice.com/defau鈥?/a>

  • I bought my laptop with windows office installed on it already. Problem is when i wanna use a program, like word, it asks me for a product activation key (25 character). What can i do about this, where can i find the activation key if i dont have any microsoft office "cd's"|||The product key on the computer is only for the Windows operating system. It won't work for Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, ...). Unless you paid extra for Microsoft Office, you have a free trial copy that expires after 25 uses (of all Office programs combined) or 60 days.

Until then, you don鈥檛 need a product key. You can use the trial copy by just clicking the Continue button in the registration window without entering anything in the product key boxes.

But be warned: When the trial period expires -- with little or no warning -- you'll be able to read and print your documents, but not much more. When that happens, you'll have to buy a license (product key) for Microsoft Office to continue using it.

Here are some of your options for legally paying less than full price for Microsoft Office 2010:

First, if you're a student, you may qualify for the Office Professional Academic edition of Office at a pretty good price ($79.95):

    http://www.microsoft.com/student/

Second, if you鈥檙e interested in buying just Word, check out this URL, especially the second group of listings.

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/produc鈥?/a>

Note that the higher of the two prices quoted is for a full version of that program and the lower, for upgrades from existing software. Read the list of upgrade-qualifying software carefully: MS Works is often one, and may have come on your machine.

Finally, if you're willing to spend a little to save a little, Microsoft Works is available in stores for about $40.00. You could buy a copy, install it, then buy Office at the upgrade level. I think you'd come out ahead. Note that the upgrade copy probably checks your machine for Works' presence, so don't get rid of it after you've installed Office. You never know when you're going to have to reinstall Office.

Good luck.|||I think you have to go and buy the Word CD, because when I got a new laptop, I had to enter the code too.. so I took it from the CD i bought earlier. If you never bought one before.. you have to now.|||Why not just use a free office suite and never have to worry about activation codes? OpenOffice http://www.openoffice.org/

On a basic level, save the file with an distinct file name where you can find the file on your computer. Then open up your email client (program) or email website, address the email and attach the document to your email, and send the email. Error 1311鈥檚 ultimately happen because the communication between the computer and the source file isn鈥檛 working right. I would have to know more about your set up to give you a specific answer, but here are the most common reasons it happens:

鈥?It can happen if you鈥檙e installing it on your computer from another that other people have access to.
鈥?If the source file is in the cabinet files on this remote computer.
鈥?If someone else on your network is using the source file.

鈥?If you鈥檙e not on a network, then there is probably a registry issue. This could happen if you鈥檙e on a network, too.

If you鈥檙e on a network, I would tell your network administrator about the problem. If you鈥檙e not on a network, it most definitely is a registry issue. http://melhorfree.blogspot.com/search/la鈥?/a>|||Yes, Office XP can be installed on Vista. Any version of Office will work with any version of Windows. The "XP" in the version of Office is only because it was released at the same time as Windows XP. It caused a lot of confusion (as people assumed they could not run on it on Windows 95/98 at that time) so MS quickly renamed it as Office 2003.

Office is not included with any version of Windows, so I understand why the repair shop did not re-install Office on your computer. Legally they can not do it unless you have supplied them with the Office disk at the time they were doing the repair work. They would be fined $100,000 for each illegal install of Office they performed, and possibly face jail time.

But you should be able to reinstall Office yourself on Vista using the Office XP disk and the activation code that came with it.|||"i thought the office would have come with it." Not then, not now, not ever! Only a limited-time TRIAL version ever came pre-installed on new PCs!

If the MS-Office XP CD is legal, and you have an unused legal Activation Code, it will run perfectly on Vista. If not 100% legal, you get to BUY MS-Office 2007, just like everyone else.

Go to Insert and in the Text section click and hold on Object, select Text from File option.

    Except for Outlook.
You can only have one version of Outlook.

Basically i am upgrading my computer to Windows 7 64bit from Vista 32bit. This porcess requires me to wipe my computer to install the 64bit version. Transfering most of my programs is easy but i dont have an instillation disk for my office. How can i do it? Thanks|||OK. Here is my experimental easy procedure to your problem but if it works, it will be completely free.

Before you wipe out Vista, go to the C: drive in Computer. Go to the Program Files Folder, look for the folder called Microsoft Office. Right click it and COPY, then you can paste that on a USB flash drive or if your hard disk has an alternate partition (which you will not format) besides that partition that you will format to install the new OS on, paste it there. Make sure it is fully copied. Then you Install Windows 7.

Go to the alternate partition or get your USB. Look for the Microsoft Office folder, browse inside it and you see a few folders, browse in one of those folders and you see a number of dlls. You can also see icons that look like those of the MS Office applications such as Word, often named as Excel.exe or Word.exe. Those are the program launchers. Click them and they could just launch the MS Office apps in front of your eyes. Just don't delete anything in those dlls, folders and stuff. Not sure this will work though.|||Yes, you can transfer your office 2007 from vista to win7 only and only if you have upgraded from win vista to win 7. If you have performed a clean reinstallation of win 7 then I am afraid you cannot.

I mean, it probably is as simple as putting in the disk, right? Will there be things I'll have to check off or fill in on the screen? I am afraid of doing something wrong the first time I ever install a program. I want to do it myself. What exactly is the procedure. Also, where can I buy Windows Office for home & student as inexpensive as possible? Thanks.|||okay. you re right that you want to do this by yourself! is very easy. it doen't matter if you are computer "freak" or not, all of the instructions are on the screen step by step. there is not a way that you can not make it. put the disk in the slot, a massage on the screen will appear. then by using next (only!!) you can istall them in 4 minutes. the only time that you will not have to hit next is when it will ask you to enter the key. that is a 16 digit code at the back side (usually) of the manual. i would tell you to get it from some friends if they have it bc buying one is not worth it. if you have limewire, e-mule you can find it from an other user for free and easy. if you want to buy one (bc you want to be "loyal" ) try online. you can never get something cheaper , only online.|||It's not hard but save yourself some money and frustration. Try Open Office, a free alternative to Microsoft Office and is completely compatible with Office programs. If you're not using it on the old computer, though (which you aren't if you're replacing the computer), installing Office on the new computer is only the first installation that will be used.
