Any version of Office will work with any version of Windows. The "XP" in the version of Office is only because it was released at the same time as Windows XP. It caused a lot of confusion (as people assumed they could not run on it on Windows 95/98 at that time) so MS quickly renamed it as Office 2003. Office is not included with any version of Windows, so I understand why the repair shop did not re-install Office on your computer. Legally they can not do it unless you have supplied them with the Office disk at the time they were doing the repair work. They would be fined $100,000 for each illegal install of Office they performed, and possibly face jail time.
