I got a lend of windows office from a friend and each time it says preparing to install a message would pop up and say the system cannot read from the specified device. what's wrong with it?|||First go to the control Panel and go to Add/Remove Programs. Remove all components of any OLD office system, or any partial parts of the new 2007 system that may have installed. If there are multiple sections delete each individually and Re-start your computer in between each. **It is very important to Re-start your computer after removing ANY programs, if you don't, it may leave a "trace" of the program that is much harder to get rid of and can cause problems with future programs beind downloaded.
After you have everything deleted and have re-started your computer, then try to download the new program again.
Hope this helps!!

**Also, after reading someone else's post, I thought I'd add this...Its not legit, and if you don't have a user licence you will get a message asking for it everytime. BUT it can last for more than 30 days if you choose the option that says "Register Later". You can keep clicking that for a LONG time and continue to use the program.|||Office is protected against copyright and may have been the error or your computer may be outdated and may not have the software to recognize the Office software.|||Even if the install worked, what you are doing is not legit so Microsoft won't validate the install, so it won't run for more than 30 days.

Sounds like your friends CD is damaged or your drive is damaged.

Instead of stealing software from Microsoft that won't work, try Open Office. It works and is free.|||Simple, either your Device(cd or dvd) is not readable or your cd/dvd drive is not supporting the media(cd/dvd). If your device is old, try cleaning the lense with a laser lense cleaner. If still it doesnot work, it is the fault of the media. Some devices dont support all the media's.
