windows office: I really need a reference where I can find this information. I have tried looking through Microsoft's investor relations summary of the year documents (85ish pages) and can't see the information. The linked chart shows its profit per division for 2006-9 by quarter. Note that the online services has consistently made a loss. 2009 was a weak year for MS until the last quarter, when things picked after the release of windows 7. Many people had been holding off buying until after the october release of win 7.
