Also, is there any Dell laptop you would avoid, had bad experiences with?|||if you're thinking of buying a laptop you should check out this site first. they give you a sony vaio laptop for FREE! all you need to do is complete a few quick tasks for them.|||I think what you want is a desktop replacement. The Dell Vostros are well priced, and give decent performance. If you want a better looking laptop you can go with the HPs or the Dell Inspiron line. As for Dell laptops to avoid I don't know of any. I do know that they have lousy customer support, and they had an incident with the batteries exploding a few years ago. I would avoid Celeron processors, and 2 GB of RAM should be the minimum on a Vista system. Anything less than 2GB of RAM should be on XP.|||hi you can go for DELL Inspiron computers solely for home use and also for basic games and multimedia works... For high end computing you can go for DELL XPS...|||HP TX 1300 good

I'm not sure if that link will actually work or not, but, just in case it doesn't, all you have to do is get the the laptops on dell.com under "Home & Home Office" and check the cheapest group (Dell Inspiron Notebooks). One of those would probably be fine for what you want to do. Just make sure you have enough Memory (at least 2GB, I'd say) and hard drive space (anything 250GB and up is good).|||If it is not being used for gaming, you will need a laptop with a sizable hard drive, at least 80GB. You will need a good chunk of memory/RAM, at least 512 [2GB if being used for Vista], and most of all, good battery life. Most other features would be irrelevant if its being used at home.

If you can pick up a laptop that comes without an OS or comes with Linux, that'll save you heaps of money. If you do that, get and install Ubuntu Linux (ubuntu.com), and learn how to use it. Its fairly easy to use, but may take some time, but getting your laptop ~$250 cheaper is far worth it, and Ubuntu supports loads of applications to do with home use :)

Regarding Vista: My advice is, avoid it like the plague.
